ABOUT FESTIVAL

It was thanks to Nikola Tesla that the first European hydropower plant was built in Croatia. It was put into operation three days after the world's first hydropower plant on the waterfalls of Niagara Falls was put into operation based on Nikola Tesla's patents.

Below the Skradinski buk waterfall, on the Krka river, a turbine, two generators (42 Hz, 550 kW) and a transformer, made by the Hungarian company Ganz, were installed. An 11.5 km long power line on wooden poles was built to the nearby Šibenik, and Šibenik was the first town in the world which got alternating current for its plants. On 28th August 1895 at 8.20 pm, the first public lighting on alternating current was switched on in Šibenik. The credit for the realization of this project belongs to the then Mayor of Šibenik Ante Šupuk, his son Marko Šupuk, and Šibenik's superintendent Vjekoslav the Noble Meichsner.

On 28th August 2016, Zoran Lučić Luca started celebrating this date with the Light is Life project, with the idea that it would grow into a festival of light. For the fifth year in a row the author, with his light installations, cultural program and various attractions, marks this important historical, technological and cultural event in cooperation with the Tourist Board of the City of Šibenik.

DINNER ON THE GRASS

Light installation – Dinner on the grass with lanterns "La Baba".

The inspiration of the design of the La Baba lanterns was found in light, warmth and love for all our nannas, and especially for

“kopravendama” (Italian comprare - buy, vendere - sell), hardworking women from Mala Loža, who in their floral dresses with buttons, aprons and scarves were selling fruit, vegetables and everything they would pick in their gardens to feed their children. In storms and ice, as well as in heat. Laughing, crying and arguing with each other.

With their retro design and hand-painted flowers, warm white light, and added brass, we wanted to embody the memory of a nanna, to arouse the emotion and a bit nostalgic (hand-painted), warm (white warm light 3000K), independent (lantern has no cable), with earrings (brass handles) and belt (just in case, to frighten mischievous children).

We hope that La Baba will bring back all those fond memories and illuminate the garden of love which grows in each nanna's heart.

*baba - grandmother, nanna

*kopravende – Šibenik name for women selling in Mala Loža

*botun - button

*vešta - dress

*traverša - apron

*šudar - scarf

*vrtal - garden

*kaiš - belt

*kontreštavati – to argue

*priraniti – to feed

*mulci – mischievious children

NIKOLA TESLA PLANET EARTH

- SOS SAVE OUR SEA

- WORLD STAY HOME

- WORLD vs. COVID-19

This installation consists of three previous installations that the author merged into one where the performance "WORLD vs. COVID-19" will take place over three evenings.

The author places a luminous sculpture of Nikola Tesla's head (made by Ivo Deković) in the centre – the core of the planet Earth, to indicate the importance of all Tesla's inventions without which the world would look completely different today.

The performance "World vs. COVID-19" will take place over three evenings. It was first performed in the area of the Šibenik Hospital as a support to the hospital staff in the fight against COVID-19, on 22nd April 2020, on Earth Day.

There will be a three-metre globe with Nikola tesla's head as the centre – the core of the planet Earth, four large table lamps placed on four sides of the world that say STAY AT HOME WORLD and 19 luminous spheres representing COVID-19, while the dancer in luminous cloak represents the humanity. With music, installation and dance moves, the performance visualises love of humanity for the planet Earth and life, the attack of the virus on Earth, the fight against the virus and the final victory.

The change of lights and colours on the spheres speaks of the virus attack, the power and danger it poses to the planet Earth and humanity.

SOS ‒ SAVE OUR SEA

This installation warns of the general state of ice surfaces on the planet Earth. Two separate icebergs where life-size polar bears and penguins, close to each other, warn of an imbalance on Earth because they are animals living on opposite poles of the Earth. Their close proximity warns of the melting of polar ice and endangerment of animal species, as well as the pollution of the world seas.

THE RISE, THE FALL AND THE RISE OF HUMANITY!

Throughout its history, the humanity has experienced its ups and downs. Nikola Tesla's inventions helped to elevate the humanity in its technical development and education. These inventions have greatly improved living conditions, and there is no device today that is not based on Tesla's inventions. This installation shows the rise of humanity from its knees based on Tesla's inventions. Then, the pandemic situation brings humanity back almost to its knees....followed by the struggle and the re-emergence of humanity. By changing the colours, the installation describes that struggle and victory.

LIFE – DEATH DOES NOT EXIST

LIFE – DEATH DOES NOT EXIST, and with this awareness, disappears the fear from it! - 'And remember; no man who existed, died. They have turned into the Light and as such still exist. The secret is that these light particles return to their original state. Returning to some of their previous energies. Christ and some others knew that secret. I was looking for ways to conserve human energy. It is one of the forms of the Light in the Soul, sometimes equal to the supreme celestial light. I haven't sought if for myself, but for the good of all. I believe that my discoveries shall make people's lives easier and more bearable and to direct them to spirituality and morality. . ." - Nikola Tesla
